Why Wood Floors?

The following are the reasons that homeowners should seriously look into selecting wood as a floor covering when compared to the other options for floors that are on the market.

Longevity.

A wood floor when properly maintained should last in a home for over 100 years. Most solid wood floors have the ability to be resanded and finished between 6 and 10 times before using the wear layer.

Cost effective.

The initial cost of a wood floor is typically more than most other floor coverings. However, when the time comes to refinish the wood, it is significantly cheaper than removal of existing flooring in addition to purchase and installation of a new floor. In most scenarios, wood is more cost effective after the first or second refinish.

Customizability.

With a wood floor, the options for stain colors and wood species & width are endless. This ties in with the point of longevity. A properly installed ceramic tile also has the ability to last over 100 years. The problem, however, is that a ceramic tile rarely stays in style for more than 10 years. With wood, if the trend is light floors, great. A natural color will do. If floors are trending dark, also great. A dark walnut stain on a wood floor will look awesome. This is something that can be changed many times through the life of the floor.

Environmentally friendly.

Wood flooring is the only floor covering option that is sourced from a renewable resource. In fact, most wood flooring mills even use excess waste material to heat their facilities. Once the life of the floor is up? Many wood floors get recycled into the reclaimed wood market or turned into pellets for pellet stoves. This saves space in landfills that plastic and laminate floors have been taking up for decades.

Health benefits.

Wood flooring has been known to improve indoor air quality, reducing the presence of dust and other allergens.

Added value to the home.

When selling homes, “real wood floors” is frequently a selling point. Realtors never make the claim of “real vinyl floors”. Wood flooring has been known to increase home values by as much as 10 percent.

Beauty.

Wood blows away the competition with regards to aesthetics. Every strip or plank of wood flooring is from nature and is completely unique. No two boards are the same. With laminate, vinyl, and tile, repeat prints are used throughout the floor. The beauty of wood flooring is something that one can appreciate in their home for years.
